Monday, February 9-At headquarters

This morning, we visited the main office located in a small, nondescript building on one of the cleaner streets I have seen. I have talked about some of the hard things I’ve seen so far. What I haven’t mentioned are the beautiful parts of Kolkata. The staff is the beautiful part. These people are selfless, driven, compassionate, faithful, strong, persistent, wise, motivated and above all else, focused solely on the mission rescuing girls and giving them their lives back.

The office is broken into various teams (legal, investigators, aftercare, admin, communications). Each of them plays a critical role. In the midst of the horror and evil that they see and work with everyday, there is an overwhelming sense of peace in the place.

After participating in some daily morning routines with the staff, we were then briefed on a rescue that took place last summer. I’m unable to go into the details, but we saw heartbreaking photos of children; scared faces, innocent eyes, no smiles. In all, 19 girls were miraculously rescued from the brothel on this day.

Many of the girls we met yesterday at Sanlaap House were rescued in this raid…smiling the whole time we were there.
